Match Day 1 (August 22nd 2021) Report

NUNEATON & DISTRICT SUNDAY FOOTBALL LEAGUE 

With 22 new teams, and a whole new division the 2021-2022 season kicked off with renewed hope, that a full season would be possible. 

In Bond Street Trophies Premier One, Danny Moreton hit the ground running by scoring five of the Lamb & Flag goals in a 6-1 win over Haunchwood Sports. Ashley Gilder scored the single. Charlie Cook’s hat trick helped Fuzzy Duck to a 4-2 win over Witherley Utd as they played their first Premier Division game. Todd Howley scored their other goal. Last seasons runners up, Ridge Lane, suffered defeat when they were beaten 3-2 by Grendon. 

In EJ Group Ltd Division One, saw Bedworth Liberal take the spoils as they played local rivals Saunders and came out 3-2 winners. Hansom Cabs, playing for the first time in the NDSFL shared the points with Drayton Res in a 2-2 draw. Jes Adcock and Sam Norman scored the Hansom Cabs goals.

SS Bulls Head, also new to the NDSFL, opened their league account with an 8-1 win over Bedworth Liberals Res. In Mark Blair Mortgage & Finance Division Two. 3-0 up at half time through goals from Kyle Olner, Ian McKay’s solo run and Lewis Alleston. Alleston added two more after the break to complete his hat trick, skipper Kyle Wilson chipped in with a brace before Dave Leeson came off the bench to round things off with the final goal. Harry Woodley, Connor McCallum, Liam Kai, and a Ross Thacker penalty saw Royal Athletic kick off with a win, beating Atletico Duke, 4-0. Jack Norman, Dean Reidy, and Sam Jones all found the net for Chetwynd Phoenix, but they had to settle for a share of the points in a 3-3 draw with Crows Nest Sports. 

Luke Taylor was the hat trick hero for Sunnyside as they opened their Nuneaton Trophies & Giftware Division Three campaign with an 8-2 win over Haunchwood Res. Steve Pywell scored two of the others, Deane Cooke, Kevin Tuff and Phill Edwards added the singles. Liam Potters brace for Attleboro FC helped them to a 3-2 win over CJ’s Athletic. Tom Holland scored the other Attleboro goals, Chris Mould and Phillip Carey replied for CJ’s. Braydon York scored twice for Red Lion Sapcote, in their first NDSFL game, as they also won 3-2. Joe Randle scored the other Red Lion goal in a 3-2 win. 

All five games in Division Four (Sponsored by Raihan's Indian Takeaway) involved new sides with Grendon Res, Phoenix Utd, Griff & Coton Manor Res, Lamb & Flag Res and Bedworth Bank all securing victories. Grendon Res edged passed Tarro Lounge 4-3, while Phoenix Utd beat Coniston Tavern Res 1-0. Josh Coates-Jarman scored twice for Griff & Coton Manor Res as they beat New Baron Lions 7-0. Daz Hodge, Jack Price, Dez Millbourn, Ryan Chilton and Matty Skragga added the singles. Josh Barnett scored four times for Lamb & Flag Res as they went on to beat Red Lion Barwell 5-2. James Marriott scored their other goal. Alec Cullen’s brace for Bedworth Bank set them on their way to a 5-3 win over White Hart. Reece Rawlings, Joe Joe Wilson, and sub-Lee Oddy added the others.
