Match Day 22 (January 30th 2022) Report



The Tribune Cup Round 3 came up with a number of surprising results, which now make this season’s competition as diverse as it has been for many years.

Collycroft Royal Oak Warriors, pulled off another giant killing act, having disposed of Grendon in Round 2, this time it was Drayton, and with a single goal on the hour mark from Jamie Matthews, and a “Man of the Match” performance from Idris Wassa put the Warriors through to the last 8, and a clash with Premier leaders Poplar Athletic.

Favourites Poplar Athletic showed their class in the-all Premier tie against Witherley Utd, comfortably moving into the last eight. A hat-trick from Ryan Harkin and singles from Ryan Quinn & Danny Taylor sealed Witherley’s fate.

Two goals each from Jack Edwards and Liam Elliot helped Whitestone to a 6-2 win over Acorn and book their place in the last eight where they will meet Hartshill Sports. Adam Barber and Cameron Henson also found the net for Whitestone, Steve Merry and Joshua Kelly replied for Acorn.

Aiden Moore scored the only goal of the game for Hartshill Sports as they edged passed Lamb & Flag 1-0.
Chetwynd Phoenix will meet Ambleside in the next round after they beat Bedworth Conservative’s 3-2. Jack Newman scored twice for Chetwynd, Sam Jones the other. Adam Cooksley and Lee Wallace replied for Conservatives.

Trent Valley, run away leaders of League 3, came down to earth with a bump, when League 1 title contenders and new boys Hansom Cab came calling. In blistering form came out on top 8-1. In the final tie, Griff & Coton Manor took a 1-0 win over League 2 Crows Nest Sports, to set up a quarter final spot against Hansom Cabs.

In the league games played, Raihan’s Indian Takeaway Division Four leaders Grandon Res were thankful for a goal from Charlie Gilks to earn them a 1-0 win over Conny Panthers.

Matthew Skragga and Chey Tirabaso both scored twice for Griff & Coton Manor Res as they beat Lamb & Flag Res. Ryan Garnham scored the other Griff goal, Oliver Wheldon and Jake Baxter replied for Lamb & Flag.  Tarro Lounger Caterpillar stay in fourth thanks to their 4-1 win over Red Lion Barwell. Nathan Turner scored two of their goals, Harry Wileman and Noel Gilbert the singles. Luke Newton grabbed the Barwell goal.

Ashby Road Sports moved into fourth spot in Mark Blair Mortgage & Finance Division Two thanks to their 4-2 win over Swan Dive, Mitch Gaskin scored twice for Ashby Road, James Heathcote, and Scott Maxwell with the singles. Declan McAuley and Sean Royle scored the Swan Dive goals.
