MATCH DAY 26- REPORT (SUNDAY FEBRUARY 27th 2022)

On a beautiful Spring like day, the competition was down to the last eight.
In what looked to be the tie of the round the all-Bedworth clash, set Collycroft Royal Oak Warriors from League 2 head-to-head with Poplar Athletic from the Premier League. In what was an intriguing tussle it was a single goal scored by Poplars Ross Proudlock to settle the tie and a semi-final place. 

Whitestone leaders of League 2 fancied their chances against Premier side Hartshill Sports, but on the day the Sports held all the aces, with a 4-1 win. Goals from Ryan Slinn (2), Toby Bartram and sub-Michael Piggon did the damage. Jack Edwards hit the consolation. 

New boys Hansom Cabs playing in the Tribune Cup for the first time, were too strong on the day for fellow League 1 members Griff & Coton Manor, with a 6-1 victory. Goals from Jez Adcock, Tristan Anderson, Cameron Brannar and a hattrick from Jake Brown doing the business. Reece Swain replied for Manor. 

In the final tie, Chetwynd Phoenix and Ambleside could not be separated in normal time, the game ending 2-2, Chetwynd’s goals coming from Sam Jones and Joe Smith-Walker.

In the Penalty shoot out Chetwynd kept their nerve to progress 7-6

ON THE LEAGUE FRONT 

Drayton are back on top of the Bond St Trophies Hinckley Premier Division despite sharing a goalless draw with Ridge Lane, however second placed Poplar Athletic do have three games in hand. Grendon suffered defeat at the hands of local rivals Witherley Utd going down 2-1. Danny Douglas came off the bench to score the Grendon goals, but Jordan Coles and Luke Taylor won the game for Witherley. 

In Mark Blair Mortgage & Finance Division Two, Acorn closed the gap on the top two teams to three points after they beat Crows Nest Sports 7-2. Jordan White led the way with four of the Acorn goals, Steve Merry 2 and Josh Tooby added the others. Liam Hill and Jamie Arnold for Crows Nest. 

Harry Flower and Ben Adams both scored twice for Barwell Cricketers as they went on to beat Ashby Road Sports 5-2. Jordan Armstrong scored the other Barwell goal, Craig Chatburn and Myles Draper scored the Ashby replies. 

Steve Pywell scored twice for second placed Sunnyside in Nuneaton Trophies & Giftware Division Three but goals from Liam Potter and Luke Ginnelly meant their shared the points in a 2-2 draw with Attleboro FC. Red Lion Sapcote also drew 2-2 as they faced Haunchwood Sports Res. George Davis and Ethan Pegg scored the Red Lion goals, Mark Williams, and Dale Morris for Haunchwood. 

Grendon Res stay out in front at the top of Raihan’s Indian Takeaway Division Four thanks to their 7-0 win over Griff & Coton Manor Res. Jamie King bagged a hat trick, Charlie Gilks 2, Danny Olner and Ryan Dingley the singles. Ash Clark scored six times for Coniston Tavern as they beat Red Lion Barwell 8-1 to move into second. Kieran Clayton scored the other two, Luke Newton scored the Barwell consolation. Ieuan Thomas-Wynne found the net for Lamb & Flag Res as they shared the points in a 1-1 draw with   New Baron Lions. Alex Lane scored the New Baron goal.
