The Luke Henney & Lee Welland Memorial Cup

The Nuneaton & District Sunday League and Ambleside Sports Association are proud to support keeping Luke & Lee's memory uppermost in everyone's mind. The Luke Henney & Lee Welland Memorial Trophy supports this goal, with the trophy in in its first year, The competition is an "Invitation Cup" open to all Member Clubs . The winners this season 2022-2023 were BEDWORTH BANK FC, who picked of the trophy in beating CONISTON TAVERN FC 2 - 1 in the Final at Ambleside Way.

The LUKE HENNEY & LEE WELLAND MEMORIAL Cup will honour the memory of Two "great men" who have already inspired a fundraising first in Nuneaton when The Luke and Lee Memorial Festival 2022 was held at Ambleside Sports and Social Club in August 2022. Luke sadly died after falling ill during an Ambleside football match in Coventry in 2015 and his devastated team-mates rally every year to remember him. This New Memorial Trophy will be in his memory along side that of Lee Welland, another much-loved and much-missed member of the Ambleside community.

In September 2020, the courageous young man who lost a brave four-year battle against cancer. Both he and Luke played for Ambleside AFC, and the Trophy is a mark of respect in both of their memory.

BEDWORTH BANK FC are the inaugural winners of the Luke Henney & Lee Welland Memorial Trophy when they beat CONISTON TAVERN FC in a close game at Ambleside Way. Connor Faulconbridge gave the BANK the lead, before Harry Davies pulled CONISTON Tavern level before the break. The game was decided late on when Nike Thomas scored for BEDWORTH BANK FC

Man of the Match

The "Man of the Match" was chosen by The Match Officials.

MOM - NIKE THOMAS of BEDWORTH BANK FC .
His whole game performance was superb, creating a number chances for others in an all round excellent performance. Frank can be seen accepting his award from Matt Wildbore, Chairman Ambleside AFC.

The 2022-2023 Final features teams from League One and League Two.

BEDWORTH BANK FC were appearing in their 1st LUKE HENNEY & LEE WELLAND MEMORIAL CUP FINAL winning at their first attempt against League Two Club CONISTON TAVERN FC who were also appearing in the final for the first time. After a good season BEDWORTH BANK FC and CONISTON TAVERN FC both Clubs gained promotion.
