VERNON BAGGOTT MEMORIAL CUP  - 2023
Royal Trent FC  1 - 3  Drayton FC Res

In the sunshine on once again a superb playing surface at Stockingford Pavilion, both sides started cautiously, with the first chance falling to ROYAL TRENT when a fierce drive from Reece Rawlings skims the post on 2minutes. Drayton win a corner on 8minutes, taken by Jack Boffin is met perfectly by Jake Sharpe with the header clattering the bar. Drayton began to get on top and on 11 minutes it was 1-0, interchange play between Jake Sharpe and Jack Boffin sees the latter through on goal and his shot nestles in the bottom corner.

Back come Trent, Liam Taylor-Smith try's a shot, straight at Drayton keeper Jake Bull. As the sun shines, TRENT have a massive penalty shout waived away by referee Garry Kings.  Game pretty even then on 39minutes Jack Bonnell threads Lewis Commins in for Drayton but with only the keeper to beat the shot is just wide. With half time approaching Troy Baker sees his shot gathered by Jake Bull, that's it half time, Trent a little unlucky yo be trailing.

Trent come out fired up, but Drayton are good on the break so caution is required.  Drayton break, NO Flag, that was close Jack Bonnell receives the ball on the left squares to Lewis Commins who rounds the keeper Sam Forsyth who appears to gather, spills the ball and Commins finishes for 2-0.

Things appear to be warming up, Trent player to the Sin-Bin, Lewis Commins hits the post and bar and the ball bounces to safety, that was close.  Trent see Ethan Baynham's free kick well saved by Bull in the Drayton goal.  With 20minutes to play a mistake in the Trent defence sees Bobby Robinson block a clearance before running through to make it 3-0.

On 82 minutes Drayton are down to 10 for a second yellow offence, which allowed Trent to pull back a consolation goal with a neat finish from Jack Millard.
Good competitive game, well controlled by referee Garry Kings and his team of Peter Bell, Malcolm Oakes and Sean Divitt.
Thanks go to Stockingford Pavilion and Dave Meuse for the use of the EXCELLENT Stadium.
